While a few friends usually say that I’m not ideal client for a brunch restaurant I usually believe brunch restaurants just suck with their menu. No creativity other than serving eggs on different sides and calling them different meals. To hell with them.
Real restaurants offer interesting menu items and are open to playing with ingredients. Penny Farthing, for one, when they obliged me with a banana bread grilled cheese. And now, a place called The Counter. A burger place where customization is their USP. And well, here’s what I ended up with:
- Grilled cheeses with spicy jalapeño jack cheese
- Grilled pineapples
- Scallions
- Tomatoes
The result: A delicious, juicy, cheesy, slightly spicy grilled cheese sandwich in sourdough bread.
Brunch is a challenge for vegetarians, and grilled cheese is the savior. The Counter at Times Square gives you complete control on what goes into your burgers and sandwiches. A piece of paper with checkboxes and a pencil to customize everything.
So fuck you regular uncreative brunch restaurants, here’s to places like Counter.
