Mango Salad

Salad with some lime, tomatoes and onions is normal but add Mango and scallions to it and you have my attention. I had this salad at a Thai restaurant. The Mangoes weren’t Alphonso nor raw, but they were a sour.  I managed to finish the whole serving but it did get a little too sour….

Pad Thai Fried Rice

At the Hurricane Club, I ordered the pad Thai chicken fried rice without the chicken. The dish was delicious; slightly sour, with a little spicy flavor. The cilantro added a nice touch to the presentation, fragrance and taste. It’s a must try at the restaurant that has hardly any vegetarian options.

The Sauce Box

This is by far the fanciest way of serving sauces that I’ve come across. Ever. Even in India where we have several chutneys, them being served in such style, never. This was at Hurricane Club.

Churros with Raspberry dip

At Max Brenner, to soothe my disappointment of the drastic lack of chocolate food without egg, I had to make do with Churros that came with White Chocolate, chocolate & Raspberry dips. The chocolate dips were good but the sweet churro sticks in Raspberry dip was quite something. The most fascinating was the newspaper-like paper wrapped…

Max Brenner’s Hot Chocolate

I was excited about a dinner that had everything around chocolate. Unfortunately I was disappointed since pretty much everything at Max Brenner had egg. Pretty much everything. The cold New York City made me feel like having some hit chocolate and I ordered the Chico pops. What came in a weird cup that reminded me…

A curry called kadhi

It’s my favorite food. Like right at the top of the list, it’s one of those meals that only your mom cooks perfect. With that out of the way this north Indian dish is made with yogurt, gram flour and a lot of other ingredients. If done right it’s spicy and sour, not watery thin…

Sushi: vegetarian & avocado

In Syracuse we have a few sushi restaurants near campus and I hated the sushi I had at one of these places. Giving sushi another chance was not on the cards but at Haru, I dared. It’s probably the seaweed that freaks me a little when it comes to sushi but once I overcame that,…

Agedashi Tofu

I had tofu at an expensive restaurant in India and found it to be absurd. The concept of eating pieces of hot yogurt seemed funny to someone who enjoys the spicy raita. Third wheel on a date I didn’t persuade friends to consider, I went along to Haru, a sushi restaurant. My appetizer was a…

Breakfast with Sandy

My weekend trip to New York City got extended due to Sandy. And bracing for hurricane sandy, working from home has its perk, like desi naashta (morning meal). There’s Aloo paratha (mashed spicy potatoes in Indian tortilla) with spicy yogurt and Chai. Tea in India is the British styled tea with milk, this one had…
